
Paul Krueger is currently an Instructor of Jazz Studies at the University of Oregon in Eugene, where he teaches jazz trumpet lessons, Advanced Jazz Arranging, Jazz Pedagogy, Jazz History, and JazzArts Oregon the school's top student combo, JazzArts Oregon. Previously, Krueger served as the Director of Bands & Jazz Studies at Lane Community College. Under his direction, the Lane Jazz Ensemble was named best community college large jazz ensemble in Downbeat Magazine's Student Music Awards.
An expert pedagogue and bandleader, Krueger is an active educator throughout the region. In addition to his duties at the University of Oregon, he is the trumpet instructor at Willamette University, and an active adjudicator/clinician at jazz festivals.
Krueger has been recognized as a skilled improviser at jazz festivals around the country, and was named the "Outstanding College Trumpeter" Reno Jazz Festival. In December 2011, he released his first album, The Wayward Traveler, which features eight of his original compositions performed by his quartet.
Krueger's compositions and arrangements have been featured by large jazz ensembles around the world, and have been performed by artists such as Steve Wilson, Eric Alexander, Dan Tepfer, and Dave Pietro. Krueger's arrangement of Steve Wilson's "Wish You Were Here" received a Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award for Best Jazz Arrangement, and Krueger is a three-time winner of ASCAP's Young Jazz Composer competition.
A native of Lincoln, NE, Krueger earned his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 2009, and his Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Oregon in June 2011.
